Nintavur MOH is a division where 97 families are engaged in string hopper manufacturing industry by selling String hoppers. Most of them are women and are engaged in the production as their livelihood. Unbeknownst to those who practice the cleanest method of production where using plastic pallets/trays makes their products unhealthy. This was brought to light during the special awareness program was organized by lions club along with the Nintavur Health Officer to prevent food starvation. At that awareness program the manufacturers got to understand the harms of usage of plastic trays and They also expressed their desire to use natural palm fiber trays as an alternative to plastic.They also mentioned that one salesperson need 100 trays to manage their business since they are consumers all around the village which has the population of 30,000 people. They further said that the only issue they have is that they couldn’t afford to put the natural Finley trays.
We,Lions club of Nintavur Supreme came forward to implement the idea and create an innovative in the theme “Healthy Nintavur” and protect the people from the harms cause by plastic. In the first phase, 5000 trays worth of 525,000/- were donated by the Lions in the awareness event. Another 525,000/- is required for urgent supply of 5000 trays and we hope to do that as well.
