Suwandanan ara wewa(lake/reservoir) is situated in the Ruhunu (Yala) National Park 10 kilometers inside the Galge Entrance of the park.History says this was built by ancient kings of Sri Lanka.Now it is one of the sources of water for wild animals inside the park.Due to financial constrains a stretch of about one kilometer of the soil bund was not restored for more than 07 years. On request of the curator of the Ruhunu National Park -North , Wild Life Conservation Department, Galge, Katharagama, Lions Club of Homagama Diamonds (LCHD) carried out the restoration work of the reservoir and a stretch of the road running to Kebiliththa in collaboration with the Wild Life Department .For this restoration work 50 hours of C4 dozer hours , 05 days service hours of 02 dump trucks(tipper trucks) and 05 day 10 hours per day of 22 workers of Wild Life Department utilized. Lions participated were :Senarath Udugama ,Samantha Ukwaththa, Pradeep Hatanarachchi, Wasantha Aruna Keerthi, Buddhi Arangala and Vishva De Silva. |
